Meridian Special Edition DSP5200SE Active Loudspeaker – Pair (White)

The Special Edition DSP5200SE is Meridian’s compact reference-grade floorstanding digital active loudspeaker, supplied here as a matched stereo pair in a white piano lacquer finish. Each hand-built cabinet contains a complete, self-contained audio system — dual DSP processors, three dedicated amplifiers delivering 225W of power, and a 2½-way driver array crowned by Meridian’s beryllium dome tweeter with silver voice-coil. The innovative 2½-way topology uses one mid/bass driver for full-range duties above the bass crossover point and a second dedicated purely to low frequencies, doubling the bass-handling capacity without the image-blurring compromises of a conventional three-way crossover. The Special Edition’s doubled processing power renders all audio, including MQA Core streams, at 176.4/192kHz regardless of the incoming sampling rate, extracting a level of resolution and musical detail that standard DSP platforms cannot achieve. With a peak SPL of 116dB at 1 metre and distortion typically below 0.02%, the DSP5200SE delivers a scale of sound that belies its compact dimensions — making it the ideal choice for rooms where the larger DSP7200SE would be physically overwhelming but no compromise on Meridian’s Reference series performance is acceptable. The white piano lacquer finish brings a refined, contemporary aesthetic to modern living spaces and light-filled interiors.

Key Features

  • Matched stereo pair with dual DSP processors per loudspeaker — the Special Edition’s additional DSP engine doubles the available processing power in each cabinet, enabling all incoming audio to be upsampled and rendered at 176.4/192kHz for maximum resolution, detail, and clarity across both music and film soundtracks.
  • Innovative 2½-way active design with 225W total amplification per loudspeaker — three dedicated 75W amplifiers individually power a 160mm polypropylene mid/bass driver, a 160mm polypropylene low-bass driver, and a 25mm beryllium dome tweeter, achieving 116dB peak SPL at 1 metre with distortion typically below 0.02% at any frequency or level.
  • 2½-way driver topology for superior bass and imaging — rather than splitting audio across three conventional crossover bands, the DSP5200SE sends the full mid-to-treble range through one driver-tweeter pair for imaging purity, while a dedicated bass-only driver doubles the low-frequency output capacity — combining the stereo precision of a two-way with the bass authority of a three-driver system.
  • Beryllium dome tweeter in short-horn configuration — Meridian’s precision-machined beryllium piston with silver voice-coil delivers breathtaking high-frequency clarity that can be enjoyed effortlessly over extended listening sessions without fatigue.
  • MQA rendering at full resolution — each loudspeaker acts as an MQA renderer, unfolding MQA Core streams to their original studio sampling rate using filters stored in the MQA library within the loudspeaker’s DSP, ensuring recordings are heard precisely as the artist and engineer intended.
  • Bespoke Signal Mapping and Full Frequency Alignment (FFA) — digitally tailored crossover filters are engineered specifically for the DSP5200SE’s unique 2½-way driver configuration, while FFA corrects group delay to ensure every part of the audio spectrum arrives at the listener’s ear simultaneously.
  • E3 Bass with Free-Q room compensation — E3 Bass extends and enhances low-frequency response from a compact cabinet footprint, while Free-Q compensates for acoustic anomalies created by specific loudspeaker placement conditions within the room.
  • Pro-Active Bass and Pro-Active Thermal protection — continuous real-time monitoring safeguards the bass drivers from over-excursion and the tweeter from thermal overload, maintaining full performance integrity during sustained high-output listening.
  • SpeakerLink and coaxial digital inputs with dual-source switching — accepts 24-bit audio at up to 96kHz via Meridian SpeakerLink (RJ45) or RCA coaxial SPDIF, with the Master loudspeaker configurable to switch between both inputs for a self-contained two-source system without external switching hardware.
  • White piano lacquer finish — a hand-polished white cabinet that brings a luminous, contemporary presence to modern interiors, maintaining the iconic tapered form that narrows from 300mm at the base to 178mm at the front with a compact 300mm x 360mm footprint and 27kg weight per loudspeaker.
