Like all things in life, there is always better options. While all Cogworks systems are designed to meet commercial Hollywood standards, those standards relate to picture brightness or how loud the system can play. It doesn’t not relate to quality of picture and sound. We have therefore provided what we think are three (3) distinct levels of performance.

Select the audio performance from the image options and then the aspect ratio.

As an example, all TV’s have what is described as a 16:9 (1.78:1) aspect ratio. Most movies and almost all cinemas are setup for what’s called ‘Anamorphic Widescreen’ which is typically set at a 2.39:1 ratio. With movies, you will most often have black bars at the top & bottom of the screen when viewing. This is opposite to what the cinemas show and is not what the ‘Director’ of the movie intended. In cinemas they practice what is called ‘Constant Height’. So 1.78:1 is the same height as 2.39:1. The widescreen images are as you would expect to see them– wider than on a TV.

If you intend to watch mainly movies through your home cinema system, then we highly recommend projecting your images in anamorphic widescreen format. If you are mainly watching sport & playing video games, then you might prefer 1.78:1 (normal TV aspect ratio). To enjoy full widescreen imagery, a device called an Anamorphic Lens is the best solution. Your dealer can explain why.

Lumagen for example produce benchmark standard video processors to extract every possible detail from the source and onto the screen. Panamorph Anamorphic Lenses capture all the pixels and display them to the screen with improved brightness and contrast. Severtson projection screens are produced in a variety of materials to best suit your projector and cinema designs.
